Residents advised of road closures in Anlaby essential for flood scheme

Residents are being informed of updated road closure dates which are essential to work on the latest multi-million flood scheme for the East Riding.

AEEFAS - Beverley Road Closure

Work began in July on the first phase of the £22million Anlaby and Ella Flood Alleviation Scheme (AEEFAS), which is designed to reduce the risk of flooding to almost 4,000 homes and more than 70 businesses in the Haltemprice and Hull areas which were badly affected by the 2007 floods.

The three-year scheme is being carried out by East Riding of Yorkshire Council in partnership with Hull City Council, the Environment Agency and the Humber Local Enterprise Partnership.

The first phase of work has involved making improvements to the existing Western Drain, which runs alongside Beverley Road through Kirk Ella and Anlaby.

This work will continue into 2018 and will see the construction of a new culvert under Beverley Road, Anlaby.

To enable this crucial work to go ahead a section of Beverley Road will be closed to all traffic, between the junctions with Lowfield Road and Marr Bridge, from Monday 8 January until the end of March 2018.

During that time traffic will be diverted via Beverley Road, Boothferry Road, the A164, A1105, and Tranby Lane.

To help minimise the duration of the full closure, preparation works were carried out under temporary traffic lights. The lights have now been removed for the Christmas and New Year holidays.

A temporary footpath diversion replaces the section of footpath that is out of service. This will remain in place until the new culvert bridge is complete.

Cyclists wishing to avoid the diversion route are able to use the temporary footpath provided they dismount when using the footpath.

Another section of the works will continue on into the new year.

A short section of Woodland Drive, at the junction with Beverley Road, is now closed to traffic and will remain closed until the end of January.

Traffic is being diverted via Beverley Road, South Ella Way and Broadley Avenue.

To avoid pedestrians having to take a lengthy diversion, a pedestrian route through Woodland Drive will be maintained at all times. This route can also be used by cyclists, but they will need to dismount.

Some of the works at Woodland Drive will also require temporary single file traffic control on Beverley Road, but these will only be put in place when needed and will not be used during rush hour periods.

The dates of all closures are subject to change.

Dave Waudby, head of infrastructure and facilities at East Riding of Yorkshire Council said: “We will continue to make every effort to keep disruption to a minimum, and we want to thank residents and motorists for their patience while this essential work is being carried out.”

Work on the first phase of the Anlaby and East Ella Flood Alleviation Scheme is being undertaken by the contractor PBS Construction (NE) Ltd.

The council successfully secured funding for the scheme from Flood Defence Grant in Aid (FDGiA) administered by the Environment Agency and Local Growth Fund (LGF) through the Humber Local Enterprise Partnership.
