East Yorkshire residents encouraged to check if they are paying too much on their energy

The YORSwitch scheme which is run by East Riding of Yorkshire Council could help East Riding residents save money, especially as over the last 12 months many may be suffering financial difficulties due to the ongoing pandemic.

The scheme, which has been running since 2013, has helped more than 35,000 households switch their energy tariff, saving more than an incredible £7.4million – with over £1m saved in 2020 alone.

Residents, together with thousands of other households, can register and submit their energy usage and receive details of how much their energy would cost through YORSwitch.

If there is a switch, it is very simple to do as the council’s YORSwitch team will take care of the entire switching process.

Councillor Chris Matthews, portfolio holder for strategic property and infrastructure at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “Despite the uncertain year we have had with COVID-19, it is positive to see how so many households register to switch energy suppliers through YORSwitch in the latest round of registrations.

“This round promises to keep the positive messages going, as our dedicated staff is here to help the scheme carry on doing its good work.”
