Contribution to the East Riding - The Hull Daily Mail / Hull Live Business Awards 2020

The Hull Daily Mail / Hull Live Business Awards have launched for 2020, back for a 21st year and underlining the very best Hull and East Yorkshire has to offer. Now, more than ever, it is essential to celebrate those business champions.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is proud to be supporting this inspirational event once again, sponsoring the Contribution to the East Riding category - specifically aimed at those businesses that are making a notable difference to the county.

A total of 15 awards will be handed out at a glittering ceremony at the DoubleTree by Hilton hotel in Hull city centre on Thursday, 19 November.

BBC Breakfast presenter Louise Minchin will be hosting the awards for the second consecutive year and there will be a keynote speech from Jo Farley, the founder of chocolate firm Green & Blacks.

It has been a difficult start to the year with companies across the UK facing the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

But amid this crisis, like in the darkest times that followed the 2008 crash, entrepreneurial spirit, hard work and dedication rises up.

With a focus on food, ports, logistics and energy, Hull and the East Riding have been awash with key workers, keeping the lights on, shelves stacked and country moving.

Neil Hodgkinson, editor-in-chief for Yorkshire and the Humber, said: “2020 will emerge, no doubt, as a year where the kudos comes from the ability to survive as much for outstanding business acumen. For many, it has been not so much a case of 'can we move forward' but can we keep going. Many others have adapted superbly and it is these tales of battling against the odds that we will hear.

“What is so important, is that we don’t hide all the good work that has gone into this great city and the region beyond.

“Awards are as much about inspiring others as they are acknowledging a job done well. They lift employee morale, boost supplier spirits and claim customer congratulations too.

“They build profile, add prestige and also open the door to one of the best parties in town. And more than ever, we need to support, recognise and celebrate the brilliance shown by the companies and individuals who have kept the economy going - something that benefits every community in our region.”

Councillor Richard Burton, leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “As one of the area’s key economic drivers, the council is proud to once again be sponsoring The Hull Daily Mail / Hull Live Business Awards.

“With the COVID-19 pandemic affecting businesses locally, nationally and internationally, it has never been more important for us to recognise their hard work and through this encourage residents and communities to support those businesses, both now and as the economy recovers.

“The Contribution to the East Riding Award is aimed at a business, organisation or individual that has made a real difference to the East Riding.

“Nominees must be based within the East Riding, as opposed to the city of Hull, but entrants could be anyone from large businesses working across the entire East Riding region, to small businesses or individuals who have made their mark in their local area.”

There are 14 categories open for nomination. Entries will be accepted until Friday, 18 September, with finalists announced in October.
