What are the options for my special needs child when he/she reaches school age?

Children with special educational needs will be admitted to schools in accordance with the Government's code of practice on school admissions and code of practice on special educational needs.

Wherever possible, children with special educational needs attend their local mainstream school, although in some cases it is recognised that specialist provision is more appropriate.  All parents of pupils with statements of special educational needs can express a preference for the school they would like their children to attend.
