What is co-production?

Co-production is working together to ensure SEND (0-25) services meet the needs of Children, Young People and Families. It is about children, young people, parent carers, practitioners and partners working together in an equal partnership. Co-production is when everyone is involved at the very start of a project/piece of work, when someone has an idea they bring everyone together before any further work is done. Co-production is not about asking for parent carers views on a piece of completed work (this is called consultation) it is about working on the piece of work together.

How does the local area work in a co-productive way?

Co-production is one of East Riding's top priorities, it is recognised that this is such an important area of work and an area we need to develop further. We have a co-production charter which was drawn up with the Parent Carer Forum, local authority and health partners.

Please find below the co-production section of the Self Evaluation Framework (SEF) which shows what we are doing well and our areas for development.

A Co-production Task and Finish Group exists which includes representatives from the Parent Carer Forum, Education, Social Care, Health and Adult Services all working together on the below action plan:

The local authority has asked East Yorkshire Parent Carer Forum (EYPCF) to organise a piece of work on the Local Offer, please see the work outline below:

Examples of co-production

Parent Carer Events - annual parent carer events are co-produced between the parent carer forum and the FISH team. These are usually held at Tickton Grange with around 100 parent carers attending.

Staff Recruitment - Parent Carer Forum steering group members are part of recruitment and selection of staff within Specialist Services.

Contact Cards - Feedback from parent carers to the Parent Carer Forum was that it would be useful if a contact card was left by professionals with their name, job title and contact details on.

Information Group - The information group is a group of parent carer forum members and non-parent carer forum members who meet at County Hall in Beverley monthly. The role of the group is to work with professionals to ensure information is parent friendly and in a format that is accessible and easy to understand.
