All Ofsted registered childminders and childcare settings in the East Riding of Yorkshire are supported by the local authority to include children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and have access to specific training courses to help meet the needs of children with SEND.

To ensure your child’s needs are being met, you may wish to contact the Families Information Service Hub (FISH) to discuss both yours and your child’s needs, explore your childcare options and search for all the appropriate childcare settings. This will allow you to make an informed decision on the childcare you choose.

Please call FISH to access this service.

If you feel your child needs extra support due to their additional need, please speak to your chosen childcare setting. You may want to speak to the Special Educational Need Co-ordinator (SENCO) who will discuss specific support for your child with SEND.

Disability Access Fund is for childcare settings to claim additional funding for their 3 and 4-year olds, who claim disability living allowance (DLA) in their own right and are receiving free early education (FEE). Childcare settings will be entitled to receive a one-off payment of £615 per year. The DAF is not based on an hourly rate and is an additional entitlement, which is not transferable between providers, if the child moves during the year. It can only be claimed by one provider if the child attends more than one childcare setting for their FEE and it is the parent’s choice which setting receives the payment. Application forms are available for  childcare settings to access and complete with parents. Settings will send the DAF form and a copy of the DLA letter to FISH for the payment to be processed.
